After the purchase in 1986 of the José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes Agricultural House, of which Monte da Ribeira forms part, José Maria da Fonseca realizes an old dream, which is to be able to produce wine in the Alentejo, in a property loaded with prestige and history (at least since 1878 that wine is produced here) using traditional winemaking techniques.
It is here, in the center of Reguengos de Monsaraz, that you can visit a unique winery all over the world, where in addition to José de Sousa and José de Sousa Mayor and José de Sousa J, are still produced the brands Montado and Ripanço .
Keeping alive a tradition initiated by the Romans, more than 2000 years ago, the wine cellar José de Sousa is equipped with 114 clay amphorae, a method of ancestral fermentation and very rare. In addition to the traditional wine cellar, below ground level, with amphorae and two presses for the step, you will also visit the modern winery with 44 stainless steel tanks and all the necessary technology for the fermentation of reds and whites.
The ideal place to see how they combine innovation and tradition and know more about exceptional wines.
At the end of the visit you will try two red wines produced in the winery (Ripanço, José de Sousa and José de Sousa Mayor)
